Dominican Republic prepares transfer of SICA Presidency to Belize
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic chaired an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Central American Integration System (SICA) on Tuesday, as part of preparations for the virtual summit of heads of state and government scheduled for Wednesday.
The meeting was led by Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez in his capacity as representative of the Dominican Republic, which currently holds the Pro Tempore Presidency (PPT) of SICA. Foreign ministers from all member countries participated in the discussions aimed at coordinating the agenda and key issues to be addressed by regional leaders.
During the session, the Dominican Republic announced that it will formally transfer the Pro Tempore Presidency of SICA to Belize at the end of June. The handover will take place during the next meeting of foreign ministers, scheduled to be held in El Salvador.
Álvarez was accompanied by Vice Minister for Economic Affairs and International Cooperation Hugo Francisco Rivera and Director of Trade Integration Carmen Elena Ibarra, who joined the discussions focused on advancing regional integration and cooperation efforts.
