Abinader and Collado inaugurate first phase of Haina Health Boulevard with RD$165 million investment

Haina.- President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado inaugurated the first phase of the Health Boulevard in Bajos de Haina on Monday, a project developed with an investment of more than RD$165 million aimed at improving public spaces and enhancing residents’ quality of life.

The intervention covers 27,820 square meters and is expected to benefit more than 83,000 residents through the creation of pedestrian pathways, green areas, recreational and sports facilities, urban furniture, landscaping, lighting, and reforestation.

During the inauguration ceremony, President Abinader emphasized that the project represents more than a physical infrastructure investment, highlighting its impact on community well-being. He noted that the boulevard will provide families and children with a safe and attractive space for recreation while contributing to a better quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

Minister Collado described the new boulevard as a transformative project for Haina, stating that it will serve both as a recreational space for local families and as a catalyst for tourism development in the municipality. He also revealed that more than RD$780 million has been invested in various projects across Haina as part of broader efforts to revitalize public spaces and strengthen local development.

Constructed by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR), the project includes an access plaza, extensive green areas, recreational and sports zones, 570 meters of pedestrian walkways, parking facilities, a children’s play area, an amphitheater, and a basketball court. Sanitary and electrical infrastructure was also installed to ensure the proper operation of the facilities.

Authorities announced that the initiative will continue with a second phase that includes the construction of a community center designed to provide services and support programs for residents of Haina.

Wonder why it is called a “Health Boulevard”? It is said Haina, is the “Dominican Chernobyl”, because of it being one of the most polluted cities in the world because of severe lead contamination. There will have to be many more cleanup phases to rid Haina of its pollution reputation. At least this present project is a start.
