Roberto Álvarez to address Haitian crisis at OAS General Assembly in Panama

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez will travel to Panama City to participate in the 56th Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States, scheduled for June 21-24 under the theme “Strong Multilateralism in Defense of Democracy, Hemispheric Security and Stability in Member States.”

During the assembly, Álvarez is expected to address member states on June 24, outlining the Dominican Republic’s position on key regional issues, including the ongoing crisis in Haiti, which remains a priority on the country’s foreign policy agenda.

As part of his visit, the foreign minister will also represent President Luis Abinader at events commemorating the bicentennial of the Amphictyonic Congress of Panama, the historic 1826 gathering convened by Simón Bolívar to promote unity among the newly independent nations of the Americas.

In addition to participating in the General Assembly, Álvarez will attend parallel forums involving representatives of the private sector, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders. He is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with senior government officials and representatives of international organizations to strengthen diplomatic ties and advance issues of interest to Dominican foreign policy.

The Dominican delegation accompanying the foreign minister includes Vice Minister of Multilateral Foreign Policy Rubén Silié, Permanent Representative to the OAS Mayerlyn Cordero, Ambassador Francina Grullón, Counselor Pamela Polanco, and other senior Foreign Ministry officials.
