Dominican Republic guarantees free healthcare for Santo Domingo 2026 participants

Santo Domingo.- The National Health Service (SNS) received the torch of the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, reaffirming the Dominican government’s commitment to providing free, high-quality medical care to athletes, delegations, visitors, and spectators attending the regional sporting event.

The symbolic ceremony took place at the Ciudad Sanitaria Dr. Luis Eduardo Aybar, where the official Games mascot handed over the torch to SNS Executive Director Julio Landrón. More than 100 healthcare professionals from the public health network participated in the event.

Landrón highlighted that it was the first time a health complex had received the Games torch, underscoring the key role the public health system will play during the competition, scheduled for July 24 to August 8, 2026. He assured that hospitals and health centers located near competition venues will be integrated into a special medical response plan designed to provide timely and efficient care.

The official reiterated that all athletes, delegations, family members, and visitors attending the Games will have access to free medical services, in line with directives from President Luis Abinader.

During the ceremony, neurosurgeon José Joaquín Puello, president of the Luis Eduardo Aybar Health City, emphasized the readiness of the hospital network and the importance of healthcare planning for the success of the Games. He stated that the country’s medical teams are prepared to deliver high-quality care and ensure a positive experience for all participants and visitors.

Health authorities noted that the strengthening of hospitals and specialized medical centers forms a critical part of preparations for Santo Domingo 2026, as the Dominican Republic gears up to welcome thousands of athletes and guests from across the region.
