Abinader reaffirms zero-tolerance policy on corruption at all levels

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption and promoting ethical leadership during the Third National Congress of Ethics and Youth, where he called on young Dominicans to become defenders of transparency and integrity in public life.

Speaking before hundreds of young leaders at the Ministry of Defense, Abinader announced that he will personally assume the presidency of the National Youth Ethics System, an initiative aimed at strengthening ethical values, honesty, and public service among the country’s youth. He said the system will begin meeting next week and will hold monthly sessions to coordinate efforts and expand its impact nationwide.

The president stressed that ethics must be practiced daily and not remain limited to speeches or declarations. He encouraged young people to become “guardians of the State” and play an active role in promoting accountability and responsible citizenship. According to Abinader, ethical conduct is the most important quality for anyone seeking to lead or serve the country, regardless of their professional qualifications or academic achievements.

Abinader also reiterated his government’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, emphasizing that anti-corruption efforts must reach all levels of public administration. He said authorities will continue to investigate and prosecute any wrongdoing, whether it involves senior officials or everyday abuses of power. The president argued that corruption includes not only major financial crimes but also acts of favoritism, influence-peddling, and preferential treatment that undermine equal access to public services.

“We must be relentless in addressing everything from the smallest acts to the most significant ones,” Abinader said, adding that the country must continue building a culture based on transparency, fairness, and respect for institutions.
