MIREX reports five Dominicans affected by earthquakes in Venezuela

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic) expressed its deepest solidarity with the people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela following the recent seismic activity that has left fatalities, missing persons, and significant material damage across affected areas.

In an official statement, MIREX regretted the loss of human lives and extended condolences to the families impacted by the disaster. The institution also confirmed that, to date, five Dominican citizens have been affected by the situation in Venezuela, three of whom have already made contact and are reported to be safe, while two cases remain under active monitoring.

The Foreign Ministry indicated that it is maintaining constant communication with Venezuelan authorities and relevant agencies in order to locate the remaining Dominican nationals and provide timely assistance and support to their families. Diplomatic efforts continue as part of ongoing coordination between both countries amid the emergency.

MIREX also reminded the public that, since July 30, 2024, the Kingdom of Spain represents the interests of the Dominican Republic in Venezuela. In case of emergency, Dominican citizens can contact the Consulate General of Spain in Caracas through its 24-hour hotline at +58 424 209 0264.

In addition, the ministry has enabled assistance channels in Santo Domingo, including the phone number (809) 987-7001 ext. 7595, 7597, and 7100, as well as the email [email protected]. Citizens may also contact Mr. Ysidro Castillo directly at +58 424 186 4464 for guidance.

For safety reasons, MIREX urged Dominican nationals to avoid traveling to Venezuela until conditions improve and competent authorities declare it safe to do so. The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Dominican citizens abroad while continuing to monitor the evolving situation closely.
