Dominican Republic to deploy mobile hospital and 40 medical specialists to Venezuela
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic is finalizing the deployment of its internationally certified Type 1 Emergency Medical Team (EMT) to Venezuela as part of the government’s humanitarian response to the recent earthquake. Coordinated by the Ministry of Public Health and the Emergency Operations Center (COE), the mission will send a mobile hospital and nearly 40 specialized healthcare professionals to provide emergency medical assistance.
The multidisciplinary team, made up of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, psychologists, and water and sanitation engineers, will offer services including general medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, patient stabilization, minor surgery, treatment for toxic exposure, and mental health care. The deployment follows President Luis Abinader’s decision to support Venezuelan authorities in addressing the humanitarian crisis.
The Dominican Republic’s EMT is one of the few in the region certified by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), a distinction earned in 2024 for meeting international emergency response standards. Authorities said the mission underscores the country’s commitment to regional solidarity, cooperation, and providing specialized assistance to nations affected by disasters.
