Germany’s Embassy in the Dominican Republic launches 21st Master of the Ocean
Santo Domingo.- The German Embassy in the Dominican Republic officially launched the 21st edition of Master of the Ocean, the internationally recognized watersports competition, which will take place in Cabarete from September 16-20, 2026.
Held at the German Residence in Santo Domingo, the launch brought together government officials, private sector representatives, athletes, sponsors, and partners to unveil the upcoming edition of an event that has been part of Cabarete’s identity for more than two decades and symbolizes the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Germany and the Dominican Republic.
German Ambassador Maike Friedrichsen highlighted Master of the Ocean’s role in promoting sports, sustainability, cultural exchange, and community development. She also praised Marcus Böhm, the event’s German founder and longtime Cabarete resident, for transforming the competition into an internationally recognized initiative that connects people and cultures through watersports.
The event also showcased the Safe Coasts Dominican Republic 2026 program, led by Happy Dolphins DR, which will certify 60 lifeguards across key tourist destinations. The first training session will include members of the Tourism Police (POLITUR) and the Viva Miches team, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR), POLITUR, Viva Resorts by Wyndham, and CASFL, with the goal of improving water safety and creating employment opportunities.
The 2026 edition will also feature German DJ Luka Pawelski, underscoring the event’s international character and cultural ties between Germany and the Dominican Republic. Supported by national and international partners, Master of the Ocean continues to serve as a platform for promoting sustainable tourism, watersports, and positive social impact throughout the country.
