Onesvie urges stronger seismic preparedness after Venezuela earthquakes
Santo Domingo.- The National Office for Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie) has renewed its call for continuous earthquake preparedness, saying the recent earthquakes in Venezuela underscore the need to reduce structural vulnerability and strengthen disaster resilience in the Dominican Republic.
The agency stressed that the regular assessment of critical infrastructure—including hospitals, schools, and public buildings—remains a national priority. It also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting structural inspections, training programs, and public awareness initiatives aimed at improving the country’s preparedness and response to major seismic events.
Onesvie also expressed solidarity with the people of Venezuela following the earthquakes that caused loss of life and widespread damage to infrastructure and communities. The institution extended its support to Venezuelan authorities and emergency response agencies as they continue recovery efforts.
