Punta Cana.- Dominican authorities arrested an immigration control inspector accused of demanding a RD$100,000 bribe from a woman in exchange for facilitating her departure to Spain through Punta Cana International Airport.

The suspect, identified as Carlos Javier Sánchez, was apprehended during a court-authorized controlled delivery operation as he allegedly attempted to collect the money. The investigation is being led by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), the La Altagracia Prosecutor’s Office and the General Directorate of Migration.

Prosecutors said the arrest was carried out under a judicial order as part of ongoing efforts to combat corruption and organized crime. Authorities are expected to present Sánchez before a court in the coming hours to request pretrial measures while the investigation continues.
