Nayib Bukele files to seek a third consecutive presidential term

El Salvador.- El Salvador President Nayib Bukele has officially registered his pre-candidacy for a third consecutive presidential term in the 2027 general election, following a 2025 constitutional reform that allows indefinite presidential re-election.

The ruling Nuevas Ideas party announced the filing on Sunday, confirming that Vice President Félix Ulloa also registered to seek another term. Party president Xavi Bukele shared the registration documents on social media, while Ulloa thanked the party for the opportunity to continue its political project. Bukele has not publicly commented on his pre-candidacy and is not expected to face challengers in the party’s primaries.

The constitutional changes, approved by the Legislative Assembly in July 2025, also moved the next presidential election to 2027 and extended future presidential terms to six years. Despite criticism over the reform, Bukele continues to enjoy strong public support, largely driven by his crackdown on gang violence, though economic concerns have become increasingly prominent among Salvadorans.

Why is this Dominican news? That guy is a criminal, and all this admiration from Hispanics is weird. The guy just wants to hold on to power like Xi Jinping or Vladimir Putin or any of the other dictators in our timeline.
