MOPC advances expansion of Frank Rainieri Tourist Boulevard
La Altagracia.- The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) is advancing the expansion of the Macao–Uvero Alto section of the Frank Rainieri Tourist Boulevard in La Altagracia, a project designed to improve mobility and accommodate the rapid growth of tourism, residential developments and commercial activity in the eastern Dominican Republic.
The project will widen the roadway from two to four lanes along approximately 13 kilometers, with funding provided through the RD Vial Trust’s toll system. According to MOPC and RD Vial, the expansion will improve traffic flow, enhance road safety and provide more efficient travel for residents, workers, transportation providers and tourists using the corridor to access Macao, Uvero Alto and nearby hotel developments.
As part of the government’s broader plan to modernize road infrastructure in the Punta Cana-Bávaro tourist region, crews continue earthmoving, road improvements and lane expansion using heavy equipment along the highway. Authorities say the project responds to the sharp increase in vehicle traffic driven by the area’s sustained tourism and real estate growth, while reducing congestion and strengthening connectivity to Uvero Alto, one of the country’s fastest-growing hotel destinations.
RD Vial noted that toll revenues are being reinvested in infrastructure projects, maintenance, lighting, signage and road safety initiatives aimed at improving national connectivity. Once completed, the expanded boulevard is expected to provide safer, more modern and efficient transportation for one of the Dominican Republic’s most important tourism corridors.
