Cap Cana expands sports tourism with international events

Cap Cana is reinforcing its position as one of the Caribbean’s leading sports tourism destinations through a strategy centered on hosting world-class sporting events that attract international visitors and diversify the Dominican Republic’s tourism industry.

Cap Cana CEO Jorge Subero Medina said the destination has invested more than US$4.7 billion over the past 24 years and now hosts globally recognized competitions, including the ATP Challenger 175, Ironman 70.3, MICFootball, international sport fishing tournaments and prestigious golf events. He noted that these competitions attract athletes and visitors from dozens of countries, generating longer stays, higher tourism spending and greater economic activity.

Looking ahead, Cap Cana plans to expand its portfolio of international sporting events while leveraging its world-class facilities for golf, tennis, soccer, equestrian sports, padel and sport fishing. According to Subero Medina, the goal is to establish Cap Cana as the Caribbean’s premier sports tourism hub, strengthening the Dominican Republic’s competitiveness as a global travel destination while creating jobs and increasing tourism revenue.
