Sunday with less rain and a higher concentration of Saharan dust; sweltering heat
This Sunday, a mass of air with lower moisture content and a moderate concentration of Saharan dust will begin to affect the area, greatly reducing the occurrence of rain.
The tropical wave will continue to move away; however, the upper-level trough will maintain its influence and, together with local effects, will cause increased cloudiness towards the Central Mountain Range and the northeast, in locations of Espaillat, Hermanas Mirabal, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, southern Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, among other nearby provinces, where local downpours with possible thunderstorms and gusts of wind will occur during the afternoon.
The National Forecast Center of the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) discontinued the weather alert levels, despite the risk of urban flooding that it had maintained in several provinces.
The weather will remain quite hot across much of the country due to the time of year and the arrival of Saharan dust particles. Therefore, Indomet continues to recommend staying hydrated, wearing light-colored, lightweight clothing, staying in cool, well-ventilated areas, and avoiding prolonged sun exposure between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm.
Pay extra attention to children, the elderly, and pregnant women, as they are the most vulnerable to the effects of heat.
Local forecasts
In Greater Santo Domingo: Occasional cloud cover and overcast skies. Minimum temperature between 23°C and 25°C and maximum between 32°C and 34°C.
On Monday morning, isolated showers are expected over areas near the Caribbean and northeast coasts, while the rest of the country will remain partly cloudy. In the afternoon, although fair weather will prevail in some regions, a trough, wind, and local effects will cause increased cloud cover in towns in the southeastern and northeastern provinces, the Central Mountain Range, and the border region, where local downpours, possible thunderstorms, and gusty winds are forecast, diminishing by nightfall.
