China’s objective: to connect the Dominican Republic with a direct flight to boost tourism

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Dominican Republic, Chen Luning, stated that one of the main priorities of his diplomatic mission is to promote the establishment of a direct flight between the two countries to strengthen tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.

The diplomat explained that his team is actively working to make this initiative a reality, given that the Dominican Republic has great potential to attract visitors from the Chinese market, one of the world’s most important.

“A priority or a dream of my team is to promote a new direct flight that can connect the Dominican Republic with China,” he said.

Chen Luning pointed out that China has a population of approximately 1.4 billion and that millions of Chinese citizens travel abroad each year in search of new tourist destinations.

“The idea is that we have a population of 1.4 billion people, and Chinese tourists are always looking for a new tourist destination. The Dominican Republic is an ideal destination,” he stated.

The diplomatic representative acknowledged that the main challenge to establishing the air connection is the geographical distance between the two nations. However, he noted that there are viable alternatives to make the operation possible.

“What separates us is only the distance, but there’s a possibility of making a stopover in Europe before continuing on to the Dominican Republic. That’s what we’re working on. Hopefully, we’ll have a positive result soon,” he said.

When asked about the efforts made with Dominican authorities and the aeronautical sector, the ambassador assured that he maintains constant communication with both Dominican Government aeronautical officials and airlines interested in developing the route, according to Listín Diario.

“Yes, we are always in contact with all the authorities in the Dominican Republic and also with the interests of the airlines. We are working on it. We are going to promote it, to see if it can move forward,” he said.

The eventual launch of a flight between China and the Dominican Republic would represent a significant boost for tourism, trade, investment, and bilateral relations by facilitating the movement of travelers and businesspeople between the two nations and opening new opportunities for economic cooperation.

In addition to what a considerable influx of Chinese tourists would represent for the Dominican Republic in terms of tourism, it is also important to highlight the large community of Chinese citizens residing in Dominican territory engaged in various commercial activities.
