Aerodom addresses concerns over AILA baggage conveyor belts following viral video
Santo Domingo.- Aeropuertos Dominicanos del Siglo XXI (Aerodom) said it is carrying out a preventive maintenance program on the baggage conveyor belts in the customs arrivals area at Las Américas International Airport (AILA) to ensure the equipment remains in optimal operating condition.
Aerodom Communications Director Luis José López said maintenance is currently focused on conveyor belt No. 3, with the remaining belts scheduled for inspection and repairs as part of a routine maintenance plan. He explained that the equipment operates continuously, handling thousands of bags daily, making periodic maintenance essential to address normal wear and tear.
The company issued the clarification after a video circulating on social media showed a deteriorated baggage conveyor belt at the airport. Aerodom said the belt featured in the footage is already included in the maintenance schedule and reaffirmed its commitment to preserving operational safety, minimizing disruptions, and providing reliable baggage handling services for airlines and passengers.
