Indotel announces Cybersecurity Assistance Center for digital crime victims

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) has launched the procurement process to establish a Cybersecurity Assistance Center that will provide guidance and support to citizens affected by digital security incidents.

Announcing the initiative, Indotel Board President Guido Gómez Mazara said the center will serve as a trusted point of contact for people facing online threats as daily activities, including banking, e-commerce, social media, and public services, become increasingly digital. He described cybersecurity as a matter of public interest that affects citizens’ privacy, finances, and overall well-being.

The center will offer initial assistance in cases involving WhatsApp scams, fraudulent calls, identity theft, hacked social media accounts, online shopping fraud, cyberstalking, cyberbullying, sextortion, fake links, and other forms of cybercrime. Gómez Mazara said the service will provide immediate guidance on protecting accounts, preserving evidence, and reporting incidents, while complementing—not replacing—the work of law enforcement and other specialized agencies.
