Metal gate on border bridge linking Dominican Republic and Haiti collapses

Dajabón.- Growing deterioration of the international bridge over the Massacre River in Dajabón has raised safety concerns among drivers, merchants and residents who use the key border crossing between the Dominican Republic and Haiti every day. Rust and corrosion have spread across beams, railings and other metal components, while the recent collapse of a metal gate on the Dominican side has heightened fears about the bridge’s structural condition.

Users say the bridge has shown years of neglect and warn that any major structural failure could disrupt trade and mobility between the two countries. They are urging the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) to conduct a comprehensive technical assessment and carry out rehabilitation work to preserve one of the country’s most important border crossings and prevent further deterioration.
