Banco Popular launches Gnial cards made with plastic recovered from Dominican coast

Santo Domingo.- Banco Popular Dominicano announced that its Gnial credit and debit cards will now be manufactured using plastic recovered from the coastline of Sánchez, Samaná, through a partnership with the environmental organization Parley for the Oceans.

The initiative forms part of the bank’s sustainability strategy, incorporating circular economy principles into its financial products while supporting plastic collection and recycling efforts led by local communities.

Cardholders will also be able to donate their Popular Miles to fund projects that protect coastal ecosystems and reduce plastic pollution in the Dominican Republic. Banco Popular and the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF), through the Marena Fund, will match each donation, tripling the resources directed toward ocean conservation.

Banco Popular CEO Christopher Paniagua said the redesigned Gnial cards combine financial innovation with environmental responsibility, transforming plastic recovered from Dominican beaches into an everyday banking product.
