Dominicans in Europe join national consultation on the future of education
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican government has expanded its Great National Consultation for the Future of Education to the Dominican diaspora, hosting a virtual forum with participants from Spain, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland to gather proposals for reforming the country’s education system.
Organized by the Executive Commission for Educational Transformation, the forum invited Dominicans abroad to identify key challenges and opportunities for education. Their recommendations will help shape a modern education system and contribute to the drafting of a new education law.
Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Rafael Santos Badía emphasized that the education system must adapt to advances in artificial intelligence, robotics, cloud computing, and other emerging technologies. He also encouraged Dominicans overseas to preserve their cultural identity while continuing to contribute to the country’s development.
Deputy Education Minister Ayacx Mercedes said educational transformation requires the participation of all Dominicans, regardless of where they live, while Vice Foreign Minister Celinés Toribio highlighted the diaspora’s contributions through investment, knowledge transfer, and cultural promotion, in addition to remittances.
The consultation process, which has already reached all 31 provinces and the National District, will continue on July 14 with a virtual forum for Dominican communities across the Americas.
