Dominican Republic recognized with WSIS Prize 2026 for regional digital transformation

Geneva.- The Inter-American Digital Government Network (GEALC), currently chaired by the Dominican Republic through the Government Office of Information and Communication Technologies (OGTIC), has received the WSIS Prize 2026 in the International and Regional Cooperation category.

The award was presented during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2026 in Geneva, recognizing GEALC’s efforts to strengthen regional cooperation, promote knowledge sharing, and support digital transformation across Latin America and the Caribbean. Dominican Ambassador to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Iván Ogando, accepted the award on behalf of the network.

As president of GEALC, OGTIC Director Edgar Batista has promoted initiatives to advance digital government, interoperability, public innovation, and collaboration among member countries. He said the recognition reaffirms the Dominican Republic’s commitment to international cooperation and people-centered digital transformation.

According to OGTIC, the award also highlights the country’s efforts to modernize public administration and improve government services through digital innovation. Through GEALC, member states collaborate on best practices in areas including cybersecurity, digital identity, data protection, electronic signatures, interoperability, and the responsible use of emerging technologies.
