Education Ministry receives torch for Santo Domingo 2026 Games

Santo Domingo.- Education Minister Luis Miguel De Camps received the “Flame of Values” for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, highlighting the torch as a symbol of the principles promoted through Dominican education and the country’s commitment to hosting the regional sporting event.

Joined by National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI) Director Alberto Rodríguez, education officials, teachers, and students, De Camps said the torch represents more than the start of the Games, emphasizing values such as discipline, respect, honesty, perseverance, teamwork, and fair play.

Student representatives also welcomed the torch, describing it as a symbol of unity, excellence, and responsible citizenship, while noting that sports play a key role in education and character development.

The torch was lit on April 11 at the archaeological site of Teotihuacan, Mexico, before arriving in the Dominican Republic, where President Luis Abinader launched the “Wiche García Saleta Route: The Flame of Values” on May 6.

The relay, accompanied by the official Games mascot Colí, will conclude on July 24, when the final torchbearer lights the cauldron during the opening ceremony in Santo Domingo. The Games will bring together more than 6,000 athletes from 37 countries.
