President Abinader signs book of condolences following death of Qatar’s former emir
Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader visited the residence of the Qatari ambassador in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday to sign the book of condolences following the death of His Highness the Emir Father, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, who died on July 12 at the age of 74.
Accompanied by Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, Abinader was received by Qatar’s ambassador, Yaser Awad Al-Abdulla. The president conveyed the Dominican government’s and people’s deepest condolences to the State of Qatar, its royal family, and its citizens.
In his written message, Abinader praised the late emir’s leadership and lasting contribution to Qatar’s history and development, while expressing solidarity with the country’s current ruler, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the Qatari people during their time of mourning.
The visit underscored the strong diplomatic ties and cooperation between the Dominican Republic and Qatar. As a mark of respect, the Qatari flag is flying at half-staff at the ambassador’s residence in Santo Domingo.
Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani ruled Qatar from 1995 until voluntarily abdicating in 2013 in favor of his son, the current emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
