Democratic Option stages protests in Dominican Republic and New York over cost of living

Santo Domingo.- The Democratic Option (OD) party held coordinated protests on Wednesday in Santo Domingo, Santiago, La Romana, and New York City as part of its third national mobilization, calling for government action on issues it says are affecting Dominicans.

During the demonstrations, party leaders, members, and supporters protested the rising cost of living, denounced alleged police abuses, and reiterated their opposition to the proposed “Gag Law,” arguing that it threatens freedom of expression and other democratic rights.

The party said increasing prices for goods and services continue to strain Dominican households, while concerns over police conduct remain unresolved.

According to Democratic Option, the protests were intended to highlight growing public dissatisfaction and urge the government to adopt policies that address citizens’ needs, protect human rights, and safeguard fundamental freedoms.
