Dominican JCE clarifies new ID card design complies with national symbols law

Santo Domingo.- The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has clarified that the new Dominican identity and electoral card includes the National Coat of Arms, following videos circulating on social media claiming the symbol had been removed.

JCE President Román Jáquez said the redesigned ID fully complies with Dominican law and confirmed that the National Coat of Arms is incorporated into the document’s official design.

According to Jáquez, the design underwent a validation process by the National Commission of Patriotic Anniversaries (Efemérides Patrias) and the Instituto Duartiano, both of which certified that the national symbols used on the card meet the legal specifications established by Dominican legislation.

The JCE also emphasized that the image of national hero Juan Pablo Duarte featured on the card complies with the country’s official standards.

In light of misinformation circulating online, the electoral body urged citizens to verify information through its official channels before sharing unconfirmed content. It also encouraged the public to visit its website to review the new ID card’s design and security features.

The clarification aims to dispel concerns about the document’s design and reaffirm that the new identity and electoral card fully complies with Dominican legal requirements regarding national symbols.
