Fenatrano’s Juan Hubieres accuses Senator Antonio Marte of targeting union routes

Santo Domingo.- Fenatrano president Juan Hubieres accused Senator Antonio Marte, who also heads Conatra, of attempting to take control of public transportation corridors at the expense of routes affiliated with Fenatrano, escalating tensions within the country’s transport sector.

Hubieres alleged that Marte is pressuring authorities to strip Fenatrano-affiliated operators of their route rights in order to secure additional government-approved bus corridors. He also claimed the senator benefits from government transportation contracts and subsidized fuel, calling for an investigation into those arrangements.

The union leader criticized recent actions by the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant), arguing that the detention of vehicles operating along the Mella corridor violates existing operating rights. He urged Intrant Director Milton Morrison not to take sides in the dispute.

Hubieres further accused Marte of seeking to monopolize transportation corridors and warned that Fenatrano would oppose any attempt to remove its affiliated routes. He also referenced past violence in the transport sector, alleging that similar tactics should not be allowed to reemerge.

The statements come amid an ongoing dispute over the operation and allocation of public transportation corridors in the Dominican Republic.
