Jean Todt to launch UN road safety campaign during Dominican Republic visit

Santo Domingo.- United Nations Special Envoy for Road Safety Jean Todt will visit the Dominican Republic from July 22 to 25 to strengthen cooperation and promote measures aimed at reducing traffic accidents.

During his visit, Todt is scheduled to meet with President Luis Abinader, government officials, private sector representatives, media, and youth leaders to discuss road safety initiatives and public policy.

A key event on the agenda is the launch of the “Voices for Road Safety” campaign, a United Nations initiative being rolled out in partnership with the National Institute of Transit and Land Transport (Intrant), JCDecaux, and the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games organizing committee.

The campaign encourages safer behavior among drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians by promoting compliance with speed limits, seat belt and helmet use, and discouraging impaired or distracted driving. It is already active in more than 50 countries as part of the UN’s Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, which aims to cut road traffic deaths and injuries by half before the end of the decade.
