WestJet adds new nonstop Winnipeg–Punta Cana route for winter 2026-27

Canadian airline WestJet has expanded its Dominican Republic network by launching a new nonstop route between Winnipeg and Punta Cana for the 2026-27 winter season, further strengthening air connectivity between Canada and one of the Caribbean’s most popular vacation destinations.

The new weekly service will begin on November 28, 2026, giving travelers from Manitoba direct access to Punta Cana during the peak winter travel season.

The announcement comes as Sunwing Vacations also confirmed the return of its Puerto Plata vacation packages, with flights resuming on November 4, 2026. The company’s full winter schedule, covering travel through April 30, 2027, is now available for booking.

WestJet said the expanded schedule responds to growing demand for travel to Mexico and the Caribbean, while supporting the airline’s long-term growth strategy during the busy winter months.

“We’re excited to offer our guests more ways to swap their snow boots for sandals in the destinations that matter most to them,” said John Weatherill, WestJet’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer.

The new route is expected to further strengthen tourism arrivals from Canada, one of the Dominican Republic’s largest source markets for international visitors, while providing travelers with additional nonstop access to Punta Cana, the country’s leading tourism destination.
