IDAC bans unauthorized drone flights near Santo Domingo 2026 Games venues

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) has warned that unauthorized drone flights are prohibited around venues hosting the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, citing security concerns for athletes, delegations, spectators, and air operations.

IDAC Director General Igor Rodríguez Durán urged drone operators to comply with the provisions of Dominican Aeronautical Regulation (RAD 107), which governs the operation of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in the country.

The restriction, requested by the Games organizers as part of the event’s security plan, applies to all official competition venues, including the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, Parque del Este, and sports facilities in Greater Santo Domingo, Boca Chica, Baní, San Cristóbal, Bonao, Santiago, Puerto Plata, and Punta Cana.

IDAC said any drone operation in these areas requires prior authorization from the aeronautical authority and coordination with the agencies responsible for Games security.

The agency added that it is working with security authorities to detect and respond to unauthorized drone operations, warning that violations of the regulations may result in administrative sanctions and other legal penalties.

IDAC also called on the public to respect the restrictions and help ensure the safe and successful staging of the regional sporting event.
