Bridgeport Dominican Parade to celebrate Puerto Plata and Taíno heritage

Connecticut.- The organizations Leaders for the Defense and Diversity of Education and Dominican Leaders in Education (DR-LEAD) announced the final preparations for the Second Dominican Parade and Festival, which will take place on Sunday, Aug. 2, at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

This year’s celebration will be dedicated to Puerto Plata province, highlighting its history, culture, and Taíno heritage as part of the Dominican Republic’s national identity.

Organizers expect more than 70,000 attendees, including members of the Dominican community, civic leaders, diaspora organizations, and local authorities. The event will feature traditional characters such as the Diablos Cojuelos and Roba la Gallina, themed floats, cultural performances, and live music by guest artists.

The family-friendly celebration begins at 11 a.m., with the parade starting at noon and traveling through Seaside Park before concluding on Park Avenue.

DR-LEAD said the festival will also include Dominican food vendors, arts and crafts, and activities celebrating the culture and heritage of the Dominican community in Connecticut.
