Dominican government shortens workday ahead of Santo Domingo 2026 opening ceremony

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Public Administration (MAP) has ordered state institutions in Greater Santo Domingo to end the workday at 1:00 p.m. on Friday to help ease traffic and improve mobility ahead of the opening of the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026.

The measure, established through Circular No. 0022855 and signed by Minister Sigmund Freund, allows government agencies to adopt special work schedules when necessary to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of essential public services.

The Santo Domingo 2026 Games officially begin Friday and will run through Aug. 9, with competitions taking place at venues across the country.

The opening ceremony will be held at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium at 7:00 p.m., with gates opening at 4:00 p.m. Organizers expect about 45,000 attendees, including 30,000 spectators, more than 6,000 athletes, and approximately 9,000 performers, technicians, and logistics personnel.
