Airbnb supports Dominican Republic vacation rental registry

Santo Domingo.- The company said it is ready to collaborate with Dominican authorities during the public consultation process, describing the registry as a positive step toward improving transparency and security in the vacation rental sector.

Airbnb emphasized that future regulations should reflect the unique nature of digital platforms and distinguish individual hosts from traditional hotel operators. The company argued that any regulatory framework should be inclusive, proportionate, and avoid unnecessary bureaucratic requirements, preferably through legislation approved by the National Congress.

The platform also underscored the economic benefits of short-term rentals in the Dominican Republic, noting that they generate income for thousands of families and support small businesses across the country.

Airbnb reiterated its commitment to working with MITUR to develop regulations that promote transparency, strengthen the tourism industry, support local communities, and preserve the Dominican Republic’s competitiveness as one of the Caribbean’s leading travel destinations.
