5.2-magnitude tremor in Milwaukee Trench shakes northeastern Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- A magnitude 5.2 earthquake was felt across several areas of the Dominican Republic on Thursday night, prompting widespread reports from residents but causing no injuries, significant damage, or tsunami threat, according to authorities.

The earthquake struck at 10:42 p.m., with its epicenter located in the Milwaukee Trench, north of the Mona Passage, about 196 kilometers east of Miches and 142 kilometers northeast of Punta Cana. Preliminary data placed the quake at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The tremor was felt in multiple parts of the country, with residents sharing their experiences on social media shortly after the event.

The Milwaukee Trench, located between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, is an active seismic zone that is routinely monitored due to its tectonic activity.
