Mitur: Recovering the Russian market is a priority for Dominican tourism

David Collado, Minister of Tourism, stated that recovering the Russian market is a priority for Dominican tourism.

He explained that the main difficulty is related to restrictions on using the airspace of the United States and Europe, which complicates establishing direct connections between Russia and the Dominican Republic.

He indicated that previously some connectivity was provided through Cuba, but the current situation in that country has made that option difficult. He confirmed that Dominican authorities are receiving communications from Russian tour operators interested in resuming travel to the country.

The official also highlighted the reopening of air operations with  Venezuela, although he noted that the country still needs to restore connectivity with  Russia.

According to Collado, before the interruption of air connections, the Dominican Republic received around 500,000 Russian tourists a year.

“For the Dominican Republic and its tourism, it is vital to recover the Russian market,” he said, according to Acento.

It is worth noting that the decline of these markets on the Dominican tourist map is attributed to a combination of factors, including the war between Russia and Ukraine, the difficulties in maintaining long-distance flights, the restrictions faced by airlines, and the economic situation of residents of both countries, located more than 11,000 kilometers from the Dominican Republic.
