Santo Domingo 2026: Dominican Republic wins 13 medals in strong opening

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has won 13 medals at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, earning 3 gold, 2 silver and 8 bronze medals to rank fifth in the overall medal standings after the opening days of competition.

Competing on home soil, the Dominican delegation has delivered strong performances in taekwondo and judo, with athletes continuing to add to the country’s medal tally across multiple disciplines.

The host nation claimed its first gold medal when Ana Rosa captured the women’s taekwondo title, sparking celebrations among the home crowd. Dominican athletes have since continued their impressive run, securing additional podium finishes as competition intensifies.

Mexico currently leads the medal standings with 16 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze medals, followed by Colombia, Cuba, and Venezuela. The Dominican Republic remains within reach of the top four, with dozens of medal events still scheduled before the Games conclude.

The XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, also known as the Centennial Games, officially opened on July 24 and will continue through August 8 in Santo Domingo. More than 6,000 athletes from across the region are competing in 40 sports, making it one of the largest multi-sport events ever hosted by the Dominican Republic.
