Tourism app aims to transform visitor experience in the Dominican Republic

Santiago, DR.- Technological innovation in tourism took center stage at a business breakfast organized by the Foundation for the Development of Santiago Rodríguez Province (FUNDESER) and the Santiago Rodríguez Chamber of Commerce and Production.

During the event, technology specialist Francisco de León presented the conference “Maximizing the Tourist Experience in the Mobile Era,” explaining how digital tools are transforming the way travelers plan, navigate, and share their trips.

De León said mobile applications now influence more than 70% of travel decisions, while over 70% of tourism-related interactions—including bookings and route planning—are made through smartphones. He added that digital tourism has grown by more than 87% over the past year.

He also introduced KnowMe RD, a tourism app designed to connect visitors with verified local guides, businesses, and service providers. The platform offers personalized recommendations, smart itineraries, geolocation-based attractions, emergency services, transportation information, museums, beaches, hotels, and cultural and gastronomic experiences.

According to De León, the app aims to make travel in the Dominican Republic more accessible and personalized by delivering location-based alerts and recommendations that enhance the visitor experience.
