Dominican Republic wins 22 medals in one day, climbs to 48 at Santo Domingo 2026

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic delivered another standout performance at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, winning 22 medals on Tuesday to increase its overall total to 48 medals and maintain fifth place in the overall standings.

The Dominican delegation collected four gold, four silver, and 14 bronze medals, bringing its cumulative tally to 10 gold, nine silver, and 29 bronze after four days of competition.

Water skiing led the day’s success with two gold medals and concluded the Games with 12 medals overall—three gold, three silver, and six bronze—making it one of the country’s strongest-performing sports.

In tennis, Nick Hardt successfully defended his men’s singles title to secure another gold medal after Colombia’s Juan Sebastián Gómez retired with an injury during the final. Meanwhile, Ana Zamburek rallied from a set down to capture bronze in the women’s singles event.

The Dominican Republic also celebrated a historic milestone in surfing, where Leoni Perthold claimed the nation’s first-ever Central American and Caribbean Games medal in the sport by winning bronze in the women’s SUP surf competition.

Additional medals came from rowing, taekwondo, badminton, gymnastics, judo, and swimming, highlighting the Dominican team’s depth across multiple disciplines. The taekwondo mixed TK3 team earned silver, while judo finished with 12 medals overall—three gold, two silver, and seven bronze.

Swimmer Javier Núñez added another podium finish by taking bronze in the men’s 50-meter freestyle.

With 48 medals,  the Dominican Republic remains fifth in the overall medal table as competition continues in Santo Domingo 2026.
