Cap Cana Destination City hosted the forum “Towards Efficient Permitting: Challenges and Solutions” in partnership with the Ministry of Housing, Habitat, and Buildings (MIVHED), bringing together government officials, developers and investors to discuss ways to streamline the approval process for real estate projects in the Dominican Republic.
During the event, Housing Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó outlined MIVHED’s efforts to modernize the permitting system through process reforms, digitalization and greater collaboration with the private sector. He said the initiative aims to reduce approval times, eliminate unnecessary procedures, improve transparency and provide greater legal certainty while maintaining technical standards.
Bisonó reported that MIVHED issued 921 building permits during the first half of 2026, an 83% increase from the same period last year, supporting more than RD$330 billion in private investment projects. He also announced the development of a new national digital platform to simplify permitting and improve traceability.
Cap Cana CEO Jorge Subero Medina said efficient permitting is essential for sustainable development, emphasizing that stronger public-private cooperation, clear regulations and institutional dialogue help boost investor confidence and support the country’s long-term competitiveness.
