Indomet forecasts downpours and thunderstorms through Saturday

Santo Domingo.- A trough will bring heavy rain, thunderstorms and isolated wind gusts to parts of the Dominican Republic on Friday, while a tropical wave is expected to prolong wet conditions into Saturday, according to the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet).

Forecasters said scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will affect areas along the Caribbean coast during the morning. Rainfall is expected to intensify during the afternoon and early evening as the trough combines with local weather conditions, producing downpours, thunderstorms and gusty winds across the southeast, northeast, Central Mountain Range and border regions.

On Saturday, showers are forecast to begin early in the day in provinces including La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Peravia, Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez and Duarte. The approaching tropical wave is expected to increase rainfall across much of the country later in the afternoon.
