Construction of the new bridge over the Camú River in Puerto Plata is progressing well.

Puerto Plata – Construction of the new bridge over the Camú River is progressing steadily, following the collapse of the old structure in April 2016. The project, considered a high priority by the Dominican Government, is currently in the rebar installation phase, after the placement of almost all of the main beams that will support the bridge deck.

The bridge that collapsed was inaugurated in 1953, so it remained in service for more than seven decades, becoming one of the most important road structures for communication between the provinces of Puerto Plata and Santiago.

The new infrastructure has been designed with superior specifications to the previous structure. It will have an elevation of approximately two meters, allowing for greater capacity to cope with flooding from the Camú River and providing improved safety conditions for drivers and pedestrians.

In addition, the new bridge will be several meters longer. It will have an additional two meters of width, improvements that will facilitate safer, more comfortable, and efficient transit on one of the main communication routes in the Northern region.

The work is being carried out by the company Acero Estrella, whose teams are working continuously to complete the project in less than six months from the start of construction in April of this year.

President Luis Abinader instructed the Ministry of Public Works and Communications to give top priority to this project, due to the strategic importance of this connection for mobility, trade, tourism and the economic development of the provinces of Puerto Plata and Santiago.

With the progress being made on the construction, there is growing expectation that the new structure will be delivered in the shortest possible time, definitively restoring an essential land connection for thousands of citizens and for the transport of goods between both provinces.
