Dominican Republic and U.S. launch Friendship 2026 health mission in La Vega

La Vega.- The Dominican Ministry of Health, in partnership with the U.S. Southern Command, has launched the Friendship 2026 health security cooperation mission in La Vega, providing free medical services while strengthening collaboration between healthcare professionals from both countries.

The initiative, which runs from August 3 to 14, brings together Dominican and U.S. medical teams to deliver patient care, exchange clinical expertise and enhance healthcare capabilities as part of a regional cooperation program led by U.S. Air Forces South (AFSOUTH) under the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM).

Health Minister Víctor Atallah said the mission will benefit thousands of residents while expanding the training and experience of local healthcare personnel. U.S. Air Forces South representative Lt. Col. Donald Davison highlighted the opportunity for medical professionals from both nations to work side by side, share best practices and strengthen operational readiness.

Free consultations in general medicine, dentistry and ophthalmology, along with health guidance, are being offered at the Luis Morillo King Regional University Hospital and the Dra. Almida García Municipal Hospital in La Vega. Services are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no surgical procedures scheduled during this edition of the mission.
