Vendors on Isabel de Torres Mountain report losses exceeding RD$500 million due to the cable car closure

PUERTO PLATA. – Vladimir Santana, spokesperson for the Isabel de Torres Mountain Vendors Association, denounced that merchants and other sectors linked to this important tourist attraction have suffered losses exceeding RD$500 million during the two years and two months that, according to him, the Puerto Plata Cable Car has been paralyzed.

Santana argued that the prolonged closure has significantly impacted the economic activity that traditionally takes place around Isabel de Torres mountain, directly affecting vendors, other workers, and sectors that depend on visitor traffic to the area.

The union leader estimated the accumulated losses during this period at more than RD$500 million, taking into account the economic impact since the suspension of cable car operations.

The situation is causing concern among merchants who have developed their businesses for years at one of Puerto Plata’s main tourist attractions and who depend, to a large extent, on the flow of national and foreign tourists.

Santana drew attention to the economic consequences of the time that has passed without operations and the need to find a solution that will allow the recovery of the commercial and tourist dynamics associated with the Isabel de Torres mountain.
