Two tropical waves under observation as the Atlantic begins to heat up
The director of the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), Gloria Ceballos, warned this Saturday that the Atlantic is beginning to show greater activity just as August marks the start of the period of greatest intensity in the cyclone season.
“It’s August, we’re entering the peak of the hurricane season, and the Atlantic is trying to wake up,” Ceballos said, referring to two tropical waves that are currently being monitored for their potential to develop into hurricanes over the next seven days.
The official explained that both systems currently have a low probability of formation , and that they would encounter unfavorable conditions as they move towards the Caribbean.
“Two tropical waves with a low probability of cyclonic development in seven days are being monitored. Although conditions in the Caribbean will be hostile, we will follow their evolution,” said the director of Indomet.

This Saturday, the Dominican territory remains under the influence of a higher concentration of Saharan dust particles, a situation that limits the development of significant clouds and the occurrence of significant rainfall accumulations.
- According to the Indomet weather report, much of the country will experience little rainfall and very hot temperatures.
However, the institution does not rule out that during the afternoon and into the early evening, there may be some increases in cloud cover as a result of the combination of the prevailing easterly wind with the local effects associated with daytime heating and the orography.
These conditions could generate scattered downpours and isolated thunderstorms mainly over Monte Plata, Santo Domingo Norte, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, San Cristóbal, Sánchez Ramírez, San Juan, Elías Piña, and Dajabón, as well as in other nearby locations.
