NHC monitors Atlantic disturbance with 60% development potential

An area of low pressure in the eastern and central tropical Atlantic could develop into a tropical depression later this week as it moves westward across the Atlantic, according to the latest weather outlook from the National Hurricane Center.

The system, located several hundred miles south of the Cabo Verde Islands, is currently producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Forecasters expect conditions to become more favorable for development by midweek, particularly after a tropical wave moving off the west coast of Africa merges with the disturbance.

The system has a 20% chance of developing over the next 48 hours, while its formation probability increases to 60% over the next seven days. It is expected to move generally westward to west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic later this week.

Forecasters are also monitoring two other disturbances in the Atlantic.
