Dominicans take to the streets to celebrate Santo Domingo 2026 athletes

Santo Domingo.- Thousands of Dominicans took to the streets of Santo Domingo to celebrate the country’s athletes following their historic performance at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026.

Carrying Dominican flags, crowds gathered along major avenues and neighborhoods as a caravan of medal-winning athletes passed through the capital, creating a festive display of national pride.

The Dominican Republic finished the Games with a record 150 medals: 46 gold, 37 silver and 67 bronze, marking the country’s best performance in the history of the regional competition.

The celebration was led by Sports Minister Kelvin Cruz, alongside sports officials, coaches, technical staff and the athletes who secured the medals. The caravan began around 3 p.m. at the Volleyball Pavilion of the Olympic Center and concluded around 7 p.m. at Eugenio María de Hostos Park on George Washington Avenue.

The route passed through several major roads and streets, with traffic managed by the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (Digesett) to facilitate the movement of both the caravan and motorists.

The celebration concluded with live performances at the park by merengue artists Toño Rosario, Sergio Vargas and Fernando Villalona, urban artist Bullin 47 and salsa singer Yiyo Sarante.
