Abinader inaugurates new military training complex to strengthen Armed Forces
Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader inaugurated a new military training complex designed to strengthen the operational readiness, modernization and professionalization of the Dominican Republic’s Armed Forces.
During the ceremony, Abinader reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the conditions and capabilities of military personnel through modern training facilities and technology. He said better-prepared troops are essential to protecting national security, defending sovereignty and safeguarding the country’s borders.
The complex includes the Armed Forces Virtual Tactical Training Center and the “Zero Line” Tactical-Physical Training Center. The virtual center covers 1,089 square meters and features seven training rooms, three classrooms, offices and other facilities. It can train more than 355 soldiers simultaneously.
According to the Defense Ministry, the Armed Forces now have 12 virtual shooting ranges, 11 of which were established during Abinader’s administration. The technology allows troops to practice in controlled environments, reduce risks associated with live ammunition and improve accuracy, coordination and performance. Authorities estimate the system saves more than RD$300 million annually by reducing the use of live ammunition.
The “Zero Line” center complements virtual training with an obstacle course and military mountaineering tower designed to develop physical conditioning, mental resilience, discipline and teamwork under demanding conditions.
The facilities will serve the Army Military Academy “Battle of Las Carreras,” the Directorate of Military Education, Training and Instruction, and units of the Air Force and Navy. Officials said the complex will also promote greater interoperability through standardized training and more coordinated joint operations.
The government said the new infrastructure represents another step toward a technology-driven training model focused on improving the readiness and effectiveness of the Armed Forces in fulfilling their national defense and security responsibilities.
