New driver’s license system generates nearly RD$300 million for Dominican State

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s new driver’s license issuance and renewal system has generated nearly RD$300 million in revenue for the State in its first five and a half months, according to the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT).

Since its launch on March 3, 2026, the system has issued 329,727 driver’s licenses, while replacing a previous model that generated losses of approximately RD$20 million per month.

INTRANT Director Milton Morrison said the results demonstrate how technology, stronger controls, transparency and more efficient management can improve public services while protecting state resources.

The modernization includes improved issuance and renewal procedures, expanded service coverage, greater traceability and stronger evaluations for applicants.

Morrison said the new model has transformed the licensing service from a financial burden into a source of revenue for the State while providing citizens with a more modern and efficient service.
