Fire reduces three homes to ashes in Puerto Plata; including journalist Felo Messón residence

Puerto Plata | Sunday, August 16, 2026 Three homes were reduced to ashes during the early hours of this Sunday, after a fire broke out on Margarita Mears Street, in the Batey 3 sector, in Puerto Plata.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. Members of the Puerto Plata Fire Department have begun an investigation to determine the origin of the fire and the circumstances surrounding it.

One of the affected homes was owned by Rafael “Felo” Messón, the director of Public Relations for the Northern Regional Directorate of the National Police in Puerto Plata.

The fire caused significant material losses for the affected families. No loss of life has been reported so far.
