Abinader appoints Juan Manuel Méndez as new INTRANT Director

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader appointed retired Major General Juan Manuel Méndez García as executive director of the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT) through Decree 551-26.

Méndez García, a native of Pontón, La Vega, brings extensive experience in the military, law, and emergency management. He has led the Emergency Operations Center (COE) since 2005 and the Civil Defense since June 2022, coordinating the national response to major disasters and emergencies.

A retired Dominican Army major general, Méndez García served in the military from 1986 to 2020. He holds a doctorate in Law from O&M University and a postgraduate degree in Civil Law from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).

During his career, he coordinated responses to major events including Hurricanes Gustav, Hanna, Ike, Olga and Noel, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, and the COVID-19 pandemic. His distinctions include the Juan Pablo Duarte Military Grand Cordon and a presidential recognition for his work following the Haiti earthquake.
