Ernesto Rodríguez named new Director General of National Police
Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader appointed General Ernesto Rafael Rodríguez García as the new director general of the National Police and ordered his promotion to major general through Decree 558-26.
Rodríguez García will lead the institution in accordance with Law 590-16, which requires the police chief to be an active general officer holding the rank of major general.
The decree repeals Article 1 of Decree 111-26, which appointed Andrés Modesto Cruz Cruz as police chief in February 2026. Cruz Cruz was placed on honorable retirement following the end of his tenure.
The appointment is part of a broader series of changes and reorganizations carried out by the Abinader administration across various government institutions.
